Two years ago TikTok Shop UK was a curiosity. In 2026 it is a serious channel in beauty, skincare, supplements, snacks, home gadgets and anything demonstrable on camera — and an expensive distraction for most B2B, industrial and considered-purchase brands. This is what we have learnt launching and, in some cases, deliberately not launching clients on it.
Who should be on TikTok Shop
Say yes if: your product can be demonstrated in 15 seconds; price point is £8–£60; you can supply creators with samples at scale; and you have (or can build) content operations. Say no if: your AOV is over £150 with a long consideration cycle; you sell to trade; margins are under 40%; or you cannot handle a 30–40% fee-plus-commission load. Pallet wrap does not sell on TikTok. Cleaning sprays with a satisfying before/after do.
Fee maths
| Cost | Typical UK rate (2026) |
|---|---|
| Referral fee | ~9% of order value (category-dependent) |
| Affiliate commission (you set) | 10–25%; 15% is common |
| Fulfilled by TikTok (optional) | Storage + pick/pack, comparable to FBA |
| Shop Ads / GMV Max | Variable; target ROAS 2–4× |
| Samples to creators | COGS + postage, often 50–200 units/month |
A £20 product with 60% gross margin: after 9% referral, 15% affiliate and ~£3 shipping, you keep roughly £3–£4 before ads and samples. It works at volume; it does not work at 30 orders a month. Model it before listing.
Setup and Shopify integration
- Register a TikTok Shop UK seller account (UK company, UK bank, VAT number if registered).
- Install the TikTok app on Shopify for catalogue sync, order import and inventory. Orders flow into Shopify for fulfilment.
- Set up Fulfilled by TikTok if you want same-day dispatch badges without running it yourself, or use your existing 3PL with the SLA requirement (dispatch within 2 working days, ideally 1).
- Product listings: TikTok's own titles and images matter less than on Amazon; the video is the listing. Still, clean titles, 5+ images and a 30-second product video are required for conversion.
- Connect your TikTok Ads Manager and pixel/Events API for Shop Ads.
Affiliates: the engine
Most TikTok Shop GMV in the UK comes from creator-affiliate videos, not brand content. The programme:
- Open plan: any creator can add your product at your default commission. Set it at 12–15% to be visible in creator searches.
- Targeted plan: invite specific creators with higher commission and free samples. This is where you spend effort.
- Sample strategy: approve sample requests generously in month one (100+), then tighten to creators with a track record. Track sample-to-video rate; under 30% means you are approving the wrong people.
- Creator briefs: two lines, not a deck. The hook, the demonstration, the offer. Creators who follow scripts perform worse.
- Top creators: negotiate flat fee + commission for your top 5–10 once they have proven conversion.
Brand content and live
Post 1–2 short videos a day from the brand account with products tagged (shoppable). Repurpose the best affiliate videos with permission (Spark Ads). Live shopping: 2–4 hours a week at consistent times can become the biggest single sales driver in beauty and home; it requires a host who can talk for two hours and a deal structure (bundle, flash price) that only exists on live. Start with weekly lives before building daily.
Shop Ads and GMV Max
GMV Max automates Shop Ads across your product videos, affiliate content and lives to a target ROI. It works like Meta Advantage+ — give it enough content and budget, and it allocates. Start at £50–£100/day with a 2.5–3× ROI target once you have 20+ affiliate videos live; below that, there is not enough creative to optimise. See our Meta vs TikTok comparison for how TikTok Ads (off-Shop) fit alongside.
Operational reality
- Dispatch SLA is enforced; late dispatch tanks your shop score and visibility.
- Returns are buyer-friendly (14 days no-questions); factor 5–10% in consumables, more in beauty.
- Price parity: TikTok expects competitive pricing versus your other channels and will surface it if you are higher.
- Customer service happens in-app with response-time targets; route it into your helpdesk. An AI agent handles the volume — see AI customer service.
- Payout cycles are weekly after a holding period; plan cash flow.
What good looks like at 90 days
- 50+ affiliate videos posted, 5+ creators with repeat sales.
- Affiliate share of GMV 60–80%.
- Net margin after all fees and ads: 10–20%.
- TikTok Shop at 10–25% of total revenue for a beauty/food/home brand.
If after 90 days you have under 20 affiliate videos and sample requests are not coming, the product does not have TikTok appeal. Redirect effort to Amazon or the other UK marketplaces.
TikTok Shop is a content business with a checkout attached. If you cannot commit to content, it will not commit to you.
Frequently asked questions
What are TikTok Shop UK fees?
A referral fee of around 9% per order (varies by category), plus affiliate commission that you set (typically 10–25%), plus optional Fulfilled by TikTok fees and any Shop Ads spend.
Does TikTok Shop integrate with Shopify?
Yes. The TikTok app for Shopify syncs your catalogue, imports TikTok Shop orders into Shopify for fulfilment and keeps inventory aligned across both channels.
Which products sell best on TikTok Shop UK?
Demonstrable products at £8–£60: skincare and beauty, cleaning products with visible results, snacks and supplements, home gadgets, pet accessories and fashion basics. Considered purchases and trade products rarely perform.
Do I need to run ads on TikTok Shop?
Not initially. Affiliate creator videos drive most GMV. Shop Ads and GMV Max become worthwhile once you have 20+ affiliate videos to amplify; start at a modest daily budget with a 2.5–3× ROI target.
